The Hollis Town Band welcomes new band members, particularly people who play clarinet, French Horn, or trombone. We rehearse every Wednesday at 7:30 PM at the Hollis Town Hall, 2nd Floor.
The Hollis Town Band was founded in the early 1940s to provide Hollis, New Hampshire area students with an opportunity to play in a band. Initially called the Hollis Church School Band, the band gained its current name in 1965. Over the years, the band has provided area students and adults with an opportunity to grow together musically while performing a wide variety of music. Currently, the band includes 80 members from Hollis and many surrounding towns in southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts.
In addition to providing the opportunity for local students to perform in a band, the Hollis Town Band also sponsors the Schellenberg-Twichell-Jeynes Memorial Scholarship, given in the spring to deserving band members entering college or attending music camps. The scholarship is named in memory of longtime members and supporters of the band.
Each year the Hollis Town Band performs a Spring Pops Concert in Hollis. In addition, the band provides the musical entertainment for the Hollis Strawberry and Apple Festivals, co-sponsored by the Hollis Women's Club. The band also participates in the annual Memorial Day parade in Hollis. Other area venues at which the band has performed include the Milford summer series, the Greeley Park band shell in Nashua, and Nashua area nursing homes and schools. See the Concert Schedule for details.
The Hollis Town Band's current director is David Bailey of Nashua. Mr. Bailey is a professional instrumental music instructor and instrument repairman, and has led the band since 1985.
Current membership of the Hollis Town Band stands at 80. Members live all over southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts - as far away as Manchester, Londonderry, and Windham - and travel to Hollis for weekly rehearsals upstairs in the Hollis Town Hall. The band includes members of all ages, musical backgrounds, and professions.
The Hollis Town Band performs music of many styles, from marches to Broadway show tunes to overtures and symphonic works.
